Iceland
This is the church that is on the Tjörn in the middle of the city
This is the church at night
Leifur Eiriksson - this guy discovered America, apparently
A skeleton of a whale, honestly they don't kill them any more, not for
pleasure anyway
Gullfoss Waterfall (golden waterfall), the windiest waterfall in Iceland
One of the hot springs in the Geiser area
That guy in the background is going to get, like, totally, soaked
ooooh
ooooh
aaaah
The smelly steam behind me is nothing to do with me!
It must have been this Vikings birthday
The Geiser area (geisers are named after this area)
The Alþingi, this is where the first democratic parliament ever was held
That'll be me, by the parliament place
Ingolfur Arnarsson - he was the first settler of Iceland (after the
Romans and the Irish)
The handover of the constitution when Iceland became free from tyranny
that was Denmark
Asmundur Sveinsson Sculpture Museum - lots of bent bits of metal on
plinths
This church was of a slightly different design to all the others, two
towers!
The signs throughout the town all show a building shape and are arrow
shaped, pointing to the building
Perlan - this is where the hot water for Reykjavik is stored, and
there's a museum in one of the tanks too
View from the top of the Perlan
... and from a different angle
The biggest waterfall in southern Iceland
Me, by the biggest waterfall in southern Iceland
People lived in these houses until 1970, then they moved to a nice
tower block
These buildings were all owned by an 87 year old man who showed them
off in his museum, making visitors sing along as he played with his
organ in the church
A typical village, seen from the main road
...and a farm (behind is the volcano that stopped the flights)
The rocks in the ocean are actually a giant, riding his horse, who got
made into stone when the sun came out
Some crystallised rock caused by some valcano being cooled quickly by
the sea water
A plane once flew through the hole in the rocks, they had to do it 3
times because the guy who was going to take photos of it shut his eyes
the first 2 times
Ice on a glacier
The rainbowiest waterfall in Iceland
You can walk behind the waterfall, but you'll get wet
The horses in Iceland can walk in 5 different ways!
Coast side at Reykjavik
The view across the bay
One of the boats they used to arrive here
Conclusive proof that Icelanders, not only hunt Whales and eat Puffins,
but they trap Moomins and sell their pelts
